Burnout Unit Directions
- DON'T USE WITHOUT PROPER VENTILATION. Various types of fumes are created and it is best not to breathe them.
- DONT PLACE NEXT TO ANYTHING THAT MIGHT BURN. UNIT GETS VERY HOT! The indoor Burnout Buddy works best with the kitosun Hookah stove pictured in the listing. Other brands may work but there is no guarantee since I have not tested them. *Proper flask preparation is critical to how well this system works.
1. For injection wax or hard wax flasks place the brass colored washer flat side down onto the center hole which doesn't seem to matter. Next place the cut away portion of the trivet onto the raised edge of the brass colored washer with circle side down. Video showing how to cut the trivet is on YouTube.
2. Next, set the treated Ceramic Fiber Board donut onto the hookah stove flared side down. It should be just slightly taller than the top rim of the hookah. This donut is fragile so don't press into it or drop it. I suggest just leaving it in place or set somewhere it won't get crushed. This donut will smoke the first few times used and turn from pink to a burnt white. This is normal.
3. Once the flask with investment has dried for a minimum of 3 hours it can now placed on a food steamer for 30 minutes to remove the wax and add extra moisture into the investment. The steaming process must be done with all flasks to work correctly. Hard waxes may not fully steam out which is normal but will burnout before casting. This wax burnout should be ventilated because it will smell bad and could be toxic depending on the brand of wax.
4. Once the flask has completed steaming, dry it off and set it, hole side down, centered directly onto the trivet. Set the burnout unit on top so it rests on the donut. Make sure it is centered. Burnout unit will smell and smoke the first few times used which is normal.
5. Turn the hookah stove to (5), notate the time and check the temperature at each 10 min ute interval. after 30 minutes, turn the temperature to MAX where it will stay until 60 minutes when it is time to cast.
6.If the stove is turned on at 8:00 AM then it is important to check the temperature every 10 minutes which should show a gradual heat increase. Sometimes it may drop slightly when water and wax vacate the flask but will eventually continue to increase until it tops out between 700* F and 740* F. These thermometers are not accurate and their only use is as an indicator that the unit is much hotter than the temperature shows.
7. At about 55 minutes or 700* F into the burnout it is time to start heating the metal so it is ready to pour at the 60 minute mark. Different torches and metal pouring ovens all heat differently so this can only be determined by the user.
8. Once the metal is ready to pour, use a glove to lift up and off the burnout unit an place it somewhere safe. It is very hot and will burn the surface it is set on or burn your hand if not wearing a glove designed for hot temperatures. Next, using the tongs, grab the flask securely, turn over (it may have a gray color) and place onto the vacuum table. Turn on vacuum, make sure there is proper suction and pour the molten metal.
9. Wait about 7 to 8 minutes or until all red is gone from the button and using the tong submerge directly into a bucket of water. *** Don't breathe in the steam or have your head over the bucket. The steam contains silica and should not be inhaled.
10. You now should have a casting ready for clean up.
- what to look for after using the unit: Most likely, the heating process caused the CFB to discolor, possibly smoke and even have a burnt look. This is all normal and doesn't hurt the performance. Treat the unit with care and it should last for a very long time. Any problems don't hesitate to contact me (Craig Dabler) so we can correct it.
